DPO vs Rubicon

We just received a couple of new oscillator modules in the studio – the Make Noise DPO and Intellijel’s Rubicon.

Before we can really use them we need to sit down and get to know them. What do they like? Favourite movies? Favourite club? Techno or —- there is no “or”….

We ran through each oscillator in almost the same fashion, Sine wave, Triangle wave, Sawtooth wave, Square wave and then go nuts on knob tweaks-ville to get complex waves…. Sequence via ML-185 M4L sequencer through Expert Sleepers ES3 into the oscillators and Tip Top z4000 Envelope Generator… QMMG was VCA and then LPG during the crazier end parts of the recording – added QMMG feedback in these parts also.

Although these oscillators can do a lot this demo was more to listen to the available tones along with drums to get an idea of the sound and how it would fit in a mix. DPO and Rubicon both recorded the same way, totally dry, only one osc – Nebula compression, side chain and Soundtoys Echoboy added later.

Drums from our free XD5 drum library. Available as a sample library, Ableton Live Drum kit or super spesh Maschine kit.

What do you think? Should we go more nuts on tweaksville? Lots of wavefolding and FM modulation to check out

Rubi needs a ufold and/or uMod to make this a fair duel! 🙂

True true – but we did use the DPO to modulate the Rubi’s FM so it had that as an advantage over the DPO which was all manually tweaked. They both sound great! Aiming for a Hertz Donut II next.
